Cedar, Slate and Natural Material Roofs Can Be
Absolutely Beautiful

Cedar shingles or shakes are one of the oldest types of roofing material and have long been used in all types of climates.  They contain oils that make them naturally resistant to decay. Cedar is aesthetically appealing, holds up well in high wind, and is impact resistant. However, cedar is not immune to fire.  There are alternative roofing materials that provide the look of cedar roofing, contact Absolute Construction and Remodeling Inc. today to find out more.

Slate is an excellent roofing material.  It is fireproof, resist hail damage and has a long service life.  Slate is not immune to the forces of nature, acid rain and freezing temperatures can damage slate and shorten its life. Not all slate is created equal, quality can vary significantly. That said, slate roofs are heavy and your home may not be designed to support the weight of a slate roof.  It is best to check with an architect before installing a state roof on an existing structure.  Absolute Construction can help you with this process, and with any repairs your existing slate roof may require.

Other natural roofing materials include thatch, sod and tile.  We don't see many thatch and sod roofs in the Midwest.  Tile roofs are primarily found in the south and southwestern United States, but we do see them occasionally in the Midwest.  Ask Absolute Construction and Remodeling Inc. to explain your roofing material options, we can help you find the best material for your home.

The most important thing to know about any roof, constructed of man-made or natural materials, is that if it is not installed properly it will leak!  Leaks can cost a lot more than the cost of the right roof.  Let Absolute Construction and Remodeling Inc. help you avoid improper installation and unexpected costs.  Our installations are complete and worry free, they include:

  • Tear off of your old roof.
  • Disposal of your old roof.
  • Proper installation of your new roof, underlayment and flashing.
  • Clean-up.
